Term 2

We are focusing on multiplication and division for the rest of the term and will continue to look into measurement and time. Please encourage your child to learn their times tables.

During week 2 we continued learning strategies in addition and subtraction and at the end of the week we again looked at measurement. We redesigned our paper planes and measured how far they flew using metres as the standard measurement. L5 students estimated how far they thought their plane would go and then they measured the actual distance. Check out the photos below:

Measurement:  L5 are learning about measurement. During Week 1 we designed our own paper planes and we flew them. We discussed how we could measure the distance. L5 came up with all sorts of non standard measures like their hands, feet, legs, heads, bodies!  We settled on steps being the easiest non standard way to measure.

For our last week in Term 1 we will focus on statistics, including tally charts and bar graphs. The students are going to complete their own statistical investigation :)

During Week 8 we are moving forward with learning strategies to work out tricky problems. Our focus is still on place value and basic facts.
We're also continuing with our statistical investigations.

L5 loves Maths!

L5 students have really enjoyed their maths the last couple of weeks.  There is a real focus on basic facts and place value. All you need is a pack of cards. The students have learnt some great games - parents your child can teach you a quick game! Traffic light, place value pyramid and champion are all quick, fun and easy games you can play at home with a pack of cards!

We are now working in groups so we can be maths superstars.  There are some great websites that the students are all familiar with.
